Audience Development Initiatives Strengthening the Regional Film Culture

Western Norway Film Fund provides support for film and game culture initiatives that give audiences in the region access to a broad and varied range of Norwegian and foreign films and Norwegian computer games of high cultural value and artistic quality. The support is limited to measures that do not qualify for NFI's grant schemes.

The scheme has limited funding and only one annual application deadline. Application deadline 2024: March 1.

    • Applicants for Film Cultural Events must have their main activity in Vestland or Møre and Romsdal county municipalities.

    • Screening of films in a cultural, artistic, historical, societal or local context. Initiatives and events with a cultural or educational purpose.

    • Seminars or presentations related to a film screening or gaming convention.

    • Initiatives that strengthen professional environment for the dissemination of audiovisual works in Norway.

    • The event in question must be open to the general public and take place in Vestland or Møre and Romsdal counties.

    • We will not prioritize events that can receive grants from the Norwegian Film Institute's support schemes for film and cinema initiatives, distribution or film festivals.

    • It is not possible to apply for support covering ordinary operating expenses of festivals or the like.

    • Project Description: Content and activities, purpose and target group, expected effect/result.

    • Information about the applicant's background and experience with similar initiatives or events.

    • Description of the applicant/organiser and its partners.

    • Progress plan.

    • Budget and financing plan showing all costs and all sources of funding, including self-financing.

    • All other required fields in RegPortal must be filled in.

    • Applications for Film Cultural Events must be submitted via RegPortal.

    • The support scheme has one annual application deadline.

    • You must first create a user profile on RegPortal with Bank ID. You can then fill in and send your account for approval by Western Norway Film Fund .

    • Once your account with RegPortal has been approved, you can go ahead and submit your application.

    • We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with RegPortal well in advance of the application deadline.

    • In order to be approved as an applicant by Western Norway Film Fund, the CEO, or the company's contact person in the Brønnøysund register, must register on RegPortal.

    • If several people are to use RegPortal from the same company, the CEO approves "her/his" people in the system.

    • NB: You can submit the application while waiting for approval.

    • The support scheme has one annual application deadline.

    • Applications are processed within 4-6 weeks.

    • Applications are assessed by our Head of Industry in consultation with the CEO, who prepares a recommendation for the Western Norway Film Fund's Board of Directors.

    • The board makes the final decision. All applicants are notified of the outcome, before we publish the decision on our website and in our newsletters.

    • We will prioritize initiatives with content curated by an independent organizer.

    • We will not prioritize events that can receive grants from the Norwegian Film Institute's support schemes for film and cinema initiatives, distribution or film festivals.

    • It is not possible to apply for support covering ordinary operating expenses of festivals or the like.

    • In case your application is successful, you will receive a grant contract and other information about payment and reporting through RegPortal.

    • Requests for grant payments must be sent as an EHF invoice.

    • The subsidy is paid in two installments (70/30).

  • Decisions made by Western Norway Film Fund can be appealed in accordance with Forvaltningsloven. The deadline for appeal is 3 weeks from the time you were notified of the decision.

    Vestnorsk Filmsenter's board is the first appeal body. The final appeal body is the Media Appeal Board (Medieklagenemda) .

    The complaint must be in writing and include:

    -Reference to the decision being appealed

    -Reason for the complaint

    -Changes that are desired

    -Date and signature

    Complaints are sent to Western Norway Film Fund's Board of Directors (post@vestnorskfilm.no). The Board can reverse the decision, cf. Forvaltningsloven Section 33. If the decision is upheld and the complaint is rejected, the board prepares the case and sends it to Medieklagenemda for further processing.
